Anna Dixon-Smith studied sculpture at St Martins school of Art which formed the basis for her love of drawing and painting. Her work falls into two main categories - still life paintings and life drawing. She creates energetic drawings of the figure in charcoal, or ink and particularly enjoys quick poses, trying to capture the essence of the moving figures, dancers or acrobats.
In contrast to the vibrancy and immediacy of life drawing, when she is at her studio at home, she paints still lives, using flowers from her garden and everyday pots and jugs from her kitchen. Anna often works on a series of paintings at the same time, using layers of oil paint and collage. Her love of flowers stems from working as a florist before becoming a full time artist.
